Feathered Forebears - Kakaruia (Black Robin)

The "Feathered Forebears" collection features birds who are endangered or have low numbers in Aotearoa New Zealand. These bird species pre-exist us and yet may become extinct in our life times.
 
I have adorned each bird in jewellery or collars as a sign of their importance in our eco-system and our culture. The painted borders feature plants and/or creatures from the locality of each bird placing importance on maintaining the natural habitats that support their survival.
