Harakeke For The Hihi (Stitchbird) *Print
The Hihi is described as 'promiscuous' as they will nest in pairs or groups. Despite this they still considered Nationally Vulnerable. The last sighting of them on the mainland was back in 1983 and multiple early attempts to relocate them to other islands to rebuild numbers failed. Later relocations to predator free islands have resulted in Hihi numbers increasing.
